Apps Using TreeView

Web File Browser, PHP and ASP code to automatically generate trees for files.

Favorites Manager, ASP code for managing links and bookmarks.

The tool
FavoritesManagerASP is now a generic links-management tool, but it started as the visual builder for Treeview. In order to easily and visually create your tree-configuration file, just jump over to the FavoritesManagerASP web site and proceed as described below. (Note that the interactive Treeview builder at FavoritesManagerASP.com is free.)

Start building
Open a new window with the www.FavoritesManagerASP.com web site. Press the Enter Manager button. Once inside, use the buttons from the toolbar to quickly add folders and links or to move them around anywhere in the hierarchy you are building.

Get your tree
When you are done with visually creating the tree, just click the export button and select Generate JavaScript. This will open a window with the what will become the contents of your configuration file. Assuming you are building your tree starting from one of the demos, open the configuration file of the demo you picked (demo*Nodes.js) in an editor. Remove the whole block with statements such as insFld, insLnk, etc. Copy and paste the contents of the FavoritesManagerASP window into the editor, and you are done.

The Visual Builder will only generate the statements that build folders and links, not the initial statements that control the layout options (USETEXTLINKS, STARTALLOPEN, etc.). If the look-and-feel of your tree is not exactly like the one in the demo you picked, you can change those variables. For more info on layout options see the Advanced Configuration section in the instructions page.

Another way of building the tree for your site is by importing the Favorites or Bookmarks from your browser. First you will export them from your browser to a Bookmarks File. (This varies from browser to browser.) Then you can import the Bookmarks File into the FavoritesManagerASP. In there you can make further changes, or simply translate the structure into the JavaScript instructions. If you made changes, the option of exporting back to a Bookmarks File is also available.
